And the winner is…

Torvill and Dean opened the show with a fantastic flying routine which set the tone perfectly for a night of superb skating which saw our remaining three finalists soar through the air.

Despite epic performances from Kieron and Gary Lucy the night belonged to Hayley Tamaddon who battled through to become 2010′s Dancing On Ice champion.

The former Emmerdale actress, who took to the ice like a duck to water, racked up another near perfect score for her flying routine last night – 29 out of 30. Emma Bunton was so moved by the sight of Hayley flying through the air that it actually reduced her to tears! She blubbed, “I’m so emotional, your transitions were incredible. I feel emotional because I know how much you’ve worked for this and you’re doing it with one of your best friends and it just was magical.” Earlier in the series she and partner Dan Whiston stunned everyone with a Bollywood routine to the song Jai Ho from the film Slumdog Millionaire which resulted in the judges each awarding her perfect sixes and the pair repeated the routine last night. But it was their version of Torvill and Dean’s now iconic Bolero routine that pretty much sealed the deal.

“You look like you’re in your own world on the ice,” Chris told them earlier. “And that’s exactly how we felt when we skated the Bolero.”

Gary Lucy was the runner up and even though he must’ve been pretty disappointed, was very gracious in defeat and said “Hayley was fantastic. Her win was thoroughly deserved.”

Meanwhile the rest of this year’s skating stars returned to the rink for a reminder of the past 12 weeks, and a snippet of their favourite routines. Thankfully there were no crashes or injuries and even Bobby Davro managed to stay upright!

So that’s it – Hayley Tamaddon joins Gaynor Faye, Kyran Bracken, Suzanne Shaw and Ray Quinn in the DOI Hall of Fame, and the sequins and skates are being packed away for another year.
