Quinn Wins!

Well, what an evening!  After six months of gruelling training, close to 600 hours on the ice, and having been whittled down from 13, the three remaining celebrities – Ray Quinn, Donal MacIntyre and Jessica Taylor battled it out in the final of Dancing on Ice

Sunday night saw all three take to the air and perform fantastic flying routines.  You’d never have guessed Ray was suffering from motion sickness and that Jessica has a fear of heights from their effortless performances, gliding metres above the ice.

Final!

Each semi finalist then performed their favourite routine of the series which showed just how much their skating had improved.  Unfortunately for Jessica, Ray and Donal robbed her of the chance to skate the Bolero as she was voted out after her second routine.  Obviously heartbroken, she broke down in tears and said: “I just really, really wanted to do that (the Bolero) for my mum on Mother’s Day, I loved every minute it’s been brilliant.”

The two male finalists went on to perform their interpretation of Jayne Torvil and Christopher Dean’s iconic Olympic gold winning Bolero routine, and it was perhaps this that helped Ray win the title of Dancing on Ice champion 2009.  Being a slightly better skater from the start and scoring a perfect 60 from the judges on the night showed he was clearly well deserving of his win.  Upon winning he exclaimed: “I am absolutely speechless. I have been dreaming of this moment from the beginning.”

All past contestants returned to the ice for one last time with mini routines (apart from poor Gemma Bissix who had a back injury and watched from the rink side). Seeing the old faces and being reminded of their varying capabilities on the ice was a nice way to round off what we’re sure you’ll agree, was a fantastic series.  Todd Carty even re-enacted his famous tunnel tumble leaving the audience in roars of laughter!  If you can’t bear the thought of coping without your weekly dose of skating fun you can still see the stars of the show skate once more at the Dancing On Ice 2009 Tour including the fabulous Torvil and Dean.
